The Minister of Labour, Citizens’ Services and Open Government, Margaret MacDiarmid, introduced legislation last week to establish a new statutory holiday “Family Day” in February 2013.
The Minister also announced a public consultation process to seek input from British Columbians on which Monday in February the new statutory holiday should fall. The citizen engagement process will include consultation with employers, the tourism industry and the broader business sector in order to ensure all potential economic and social benefits are taken into account before finalizing a February date for the new holiday.
The consultation process began on May 8th and will continue until May 22nd. Employers interested in providing their input in this process can do so electronically at: https://blog.gov.bc.ca/bcfamilyday/

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims, the students and staff at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, the first responders, and the broader Tumbler Ridge community.
