Online Foundations Seminar: Workers’ Compensation Claims

This foundations seminar will provide an overview of the workers’ compensation system in BC, common issues employers encounter in navigating the claims process with their employees, as well as the related appeal processes for claims issues through WorkSafeBC’s Review Division and the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal.

In this seminar, participants will acquire knowledge and understanding of:

  • the anatomy of a WorkSafeBC claim;
  • how to navigate common issues arising for employers during the initial and later stages of a claim, including return-to-work processes with WorkSafeBC;
  • WorkSafeBC claims costs, why they matter, and how to manage them; and
  • WorkSafeBC’s appeal processes and recommended appeal strategies regarding compensation claims. 

Who Should Attend:
This seminar is suitable for human resource professionals, disability management professionals, as well as members of management, who may be responsible for receiving and managing WorkSafeBC claims for their workplaces. This seminar is relevant to both unionized and non-unionized workforces.

Learning Format and Materials:
This seminar will be completed over a 4-hour webinar. It will incorporate case studies and hypothetical scenarios to provide participants with the opportunity to apply their learnings. Attendees will be provided with a copy of the resource materials for on-the-job reference.

The conference will be eligible for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours through the Chartered Professional in Human Resources of British Columbia and Yukon (CPHR). You can also claim CPD credits with the Law Society of BC.
