Advertising Requirements Relaxed for Certain Foreign Workers

November 23, 2006

Service Canada has released new lists of occupations which have been designated as “under pressure”.

Employers wishing to hire foreign workers for occupations that appear on a regional “under pressure” list only have to carry out minimal advertising, rather than the more comprehensive recruitment efforts normally required under the Foreign Worker Program. Employers must, however, still satisfy all of the other Foreign Worker Program criteria.

If you have any questions or wish further information about these changes, please contact Paul McLean of our office.

British Columbia is observing a Day of Mourning today in response to the heartbreaking events in Tumbler Ridge earlier this week and we invite our community to honour the lives lost and stand alongside everyone affected.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims, the students and staff at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, the first responders, and the broader Tumbler Ridge community.

Resources, guidance for supporting conversations with children, a donation link, and a public condolence book can be found at gov.bc.ca/TumblerRidge.
