August 10, 2001

The BC legislature passed Bill 8 today and it received Royal Assent, bringing it into force. The School (Protection of Parent Volunteers) Amendment Act, 2001 now invalidates any clause in a teacher or support staff collective agreement that prevents the use of parent volunteers unless such use would result in “displacement” of an employee. The Act does not define the term “displacement”.
