The Ontario education minister and solicitor general have announced a model police / school protocol intended to make schools safer. Under the model protocol, schools must involve police in incidents involving weapons, drugs, robbery, criminal harassment and other serious offences. This requirement is also included in the Code of Conduct issued under Ontario’s Safe School Act. School boards have until September 2001 to develop new protocols or revise existing ones.
