Online Foundations Seminar: Employment Contracts

In this introductory seminar, Harris lawyers Nicole Toye and Debbie Preston will provide you with the knowledge you need to create and implement effective employment contracts.

By the end of the seminar, you will learn:

  • The elements of a binding contract- offer, acceptance, consideration and certainty
  • The various forms of employment contracts, including indefinite and fixed term
  • Key terms in employment contracts including termination clauses
  • The common pitfalls in employment contracts and how to spot and avoid them
  • How employment agreements interact with workplace policies, legislation such as the Employment Standards Act
  • Best practices for administering contracts effectively in your workplace

Who Should Attend:

This seminar is suitable for human resource professionals and members of management  from private, public and non-profit sectors who are looking to implement or improve their understanding of employment agreements and related issues. The workshop will focus on non-union and exempt employment relationships.

The contents of this seminar are the same as the June 2025 session.

Learning Format and Materials:

This seminar will be completed over one 3.5 hour session and provide participants with a solid foundation for understanding and utilizing written employment agreements. All attendees will receive additional resource materials for on-the-job reference. The seminar will include some interactive content and discussion.
