Changes to Permanent Residency Applications

June 27, 2008
Share

The process for evaluating applications for permanent residency has been changed following recent amendments to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

Following the recent passage of the Budget Implementation Act, 2008 (Bill C-50), the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration may now determine which categories of applications for permanent residency should be processed first. This applies only to applications received after February 27, 2008.

Previously, Citizenship and Immigration Canada processed all applications on a “first come, first served” basis. Applications for permanent residency filed before February 27, 2008 will continue to be processed in this manner.
