When it comes to resolving disputes, arbitration is widely used as a private alternative to litigation. However, it can still be a costly way to settle differences between parties.

This introductory seminar will provide you with a solid understanding of arbitration procedures from a legal context, as well as guidance tools to help you organize your case documents, develop your arbitration plan, and prepare for the arbitration process.

During the workshop, Gavin Hume, Q.C. and Ilan Burkes will take you through frequently asked questions including:

    • What is the purpose of arbitration?
    • Do I need an arbitrator?
    • What is the role of the Labour Relations Board, and how does the Labour Relations Code apply to procedures?
    • Should my company include an arbitration clause in future agreements?
    • When should I investigate a grievance? What are the important elements to consider in the investigation process?
    • How do I conduct the interview process? How should I collect, preserve and handle information and evidence to make my findings?
    • What should I expect at grievance meetings, and what is the role of the Union?
    • How do I use legal counsel effectively in the arbitration process?

This seminar is particularly suitable for new professionals or those looking for a refresher on this area of law.
