With gender identity and expression now explicitly recognized in BC’s Human Rights Code, organizations across the province have been prompted to re-examine how they can align with this emerging actuality.

Despite increased awareness and media exposure, a great deal of confusion still surrounds topics relating to gender identity, expression, and sexual orientation. Challenges regarding accommodation, inclusivity, and discrimination broaden the topic further, particularly in regards to the modern workplace environment.

In this session, presenters will:

  1. Define and express concepts and common words to describe gender identity
  2. Clarify and discuss recent legislation updates to include “gender identity and expression”, as well as recent case law and legal updates
  3. Discuss and identify proactive steps to strengthen inclusion of a diversity of gender identities within an organizational context (including internal- and external-facing operations)

This session is offered in collaboration with TransFocus Consulting.
