The upper limit for claims in the Small Claims Court (known as the Provincial Court) in British Columbia is being increased to $25,000 from $10,000, effective September 1, 2005. The cost of proceeding in Small Claims Court is usually significantly less than proceeding in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, where there is no upper limit to the value of claims.
The changes will also permit claimants to sue the B.C. Government in Small Claims Court.
