Ministry of Labour Publishes Report on Disclosure of Union Salaries

Ontario teacher union officers and employees appear to be living well. The Ontario Ministry of Labour has published its report on the annual disclosure by unions of their salaries for the year 2000. Under the Labour Relations Act, 1995, unions must disclose the incomes of union officers and employees whose annual salaries and taxable benefits exceed $100,000. The three major teacher unions (elementary, secondary and catholic) reported an total of 80 officers and employees in this category. Two of the three union employees who topped the $150,000 mark in 2000 were the General Secretary of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation and the General Secretary of the Secondary Teachers’ Federation. Most of the 78 other teacher union employees in the report were described as “Executive Assistant.”
