The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Amendment Act, 2002, S.B.C. 2002, c. 13 (Bill 7), amending the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 165 came into force by royal assent on April 11 2002. The Act now requires applicants to provide more detail in requesting information, allows for extensions of time for responding to requests for information in certain circumstances, and expands the powers under the Act that the privacy commissioner may delegate. The changes also allow the government to refuse to disclose third party information and to refuse to respond to requests that are repetitious, frivolous or vexatious. The amendments also require that the Act be reviewed every six years.
