First Nations Employment Law
First Nations organizations are increasingly assuming responsibility for programs and services previously delivered by the federal and provincial governments. At the same time, First Nationsowned businesses are becoming important economic forces in their communities. With this growth, First Nations organizations have become employers of a significant number of employees. They must navigate a complex system of employment laws at the federal and provincial or territorial level.
Our First Nations employment law practice group is made up of lawyers with considerable experience representing First Nations, Self Governing First Nations, Band Councils, First Nations schools, health care, housing departments, social services agencies and First Nations owned businesses in both BC and the Yukon.
We provide a full range of specialized employment law services to these clients including policy development, pre-termination advice, litigation services, litigation avoidance, contract drafting, management training and the investigation of employee misconduct.
In addition, we provide seminars covering a wide range of employment issues faced by First Nation employers on a regular basis. These seminars are provided in a number of different regions in British Columbia and the Yukon. We also provide employer specific seminars that can be tailored to meet your organization's specific needs.
Be sure to keep an eye out for our quarterly First Nations Employment Law newsletter that is widely distributed to First Nation employers in BC and the Yukon. If you have not received a free copy of our newsletter, or would like more information about our seminars, please e-mail Kristina Miller at kmiller@harrisco.com.
