Naz Mitha was born in Uganda and moved to Canada in 1973. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Commerce and obtained his Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie Law School in 1992. He was called to the BC Bar in 1993.
An employment and labour lawyer with extensive employment, labour, administrative and civil litigation experience, Naz Mitha works for clients in the private and public sectors. He frequently represents clients in wrongful dismissal actions, Employment Standards Tribunal cases, human rights cases and before Labour Boards and arbitrators. Naz has particular experience in Anton Pillar applications and other injunctive matters, as well as matters relating to employment confidentiality and privacy matters. Naz has represented clients at all levels of the judicial system
In addition to his role as counsel, Naz provides opinions and strategic advice to clients on a wide range of business initiatives raising employment-related issues, including the sale or acquisition of a business, plant relocations, and partial and total closures. He advises on all employment and labour aspects of business planning, working closely with clients in the development and implementation of their strategies.
Beyond his practice, Naz frequently lectures on employment and labour law issues to a number of organizations, including the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia, the British Columbia Government Managers Association, the Human Resources Management Association, British Columbia Women in Technology and others. He has written numerous papers on employment and labour topics.
Naz has also been active in the broader community. He served two terms as chair of the Board of the Vancouver Multicultural Society and is currently a member of the Conciliation and Arbitration Board of British Columbia for the Ismaili community.
