Geoff is the Managing Partner of Harris & Company and has been a member of the firm's management committee since 2004.
Geoff advises both private and public sector clients on a wide range of labour and employment law issues. Geoff also advises on issues relating to health and welfare benefit trusts and has been recognized as a leading practitioner in the area of benefits law by the Best Lawyers in Canada.
Geoff regularly attends court as counsel in actions for wrongful dismissal, breach of contract, petitions, judicial review, and applications for injunctions. Geoff has also appeared on appeals before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal and the British Columbia Court of Appeal. In addition, Geoff represents employers in arbitration and human rights hearings, labour relations board proceedings and before other administrative tribunals.
Geoff has acted as counsel for a number of employers that are federal undertakings, governed by the Canada Labour Code. In addition, Geoff has been retained with an agency of the United Nations in the Middle East, and travels to that region to advise on various labour relations issues.
Geoff has presented many papers and training sessions on labour and employment law matters, and has been a guest on radio programs discussing labour and employment issues. He has also been a guest lecturer at the University of British Columbia Law School. In 2000, Geoff authored the book, An Employer's Guide to Dismissal, a national resource for human resource personnel, and in 2007, he co-authored the second edition.
Geoff is a member of and contributes to various organizations, including the Human Resources Management Association of British Columbia, the Employment and Labour Law Subsections of the Canadian Bar Association and the Board of Directors of the Hollyburn Country Club.
Geoff received a B.A. (Honours) in Political Studies from Queen's University in 1988, a M.Sc. in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the London School of Economics in 1989, and a LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 1992. He was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1993 and has been practising labour and employment law with Harris & Company's since then.
