Paul McLean will serve as the Secretary of the Employment Law Subsection of the British Columbia branch of the Canadian Bar Association for the 2004-2005 year. The Employment Law Subsection is comprised of over 130 lawyers and meets regularly to discuss legal issues arising in non-unionized workplaces.

We are pleased to announce that Koml Kandola has joined Harris & Company as an Associate. Koml received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Simon Fraser University, with a concentration in Human Resource Management, in 1996. She received her law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1999, and was admitted to the BC Bar in 2000. Prior to that, Koml clerked for five justices of the British Columbia Supreme Court.
Koml’s practice focuses on labour law, and includes human rights and employment law work. Koml is a member of the BC Human Resource Management Association, an executive member of the British Columbia branch of the Canadian Bar Association Human Rights Subsection, and a member of the Labour Law subsection.

On May 29, 2004, Harris & Company staff and lawyers participated in the 14th Annual Slo-Pitch Tournament at Softball City in Surrey, BC. The tournament helped raise funds for the BC Children's Hospital Foundation.

We are pleased to announce that Andrea Zappavigna has joined Harris & Company as an Associate. Andrea received her B.A. in English and Psychology from Simon Fraser University in 2000, and an LL.B. from the University of British Columbia in 2003. Andrea was called to the Bar of British Columbia in May 2004 after articling with Harris & Company.
Andrea is a member of the British Columbia branch of the Canadian Bar Association Labour Law Subsection.

Colin Gibson is on the steering committee for the annual Continuing Legal Education Employment Law Conference being held on April 29 and 30, 2004 in Vancouver. Colin will be delivering a paper on the law of wrongful resignation and will be discussing its application in cases involving unfair competition.

Adam Albright will teach labour law as an adjunct professor at the University of BC Faculty of Law in September 2004. This will be Mr. Albright’s fifth year teaching this course to second and third year law students.

Meghan McCreary has been appointed to the Management Advisory Board of The Canadian Immigrant, a magazine for immigrants in the Lower Mainland. Ms. McCreary will contribute a monthly column on employment law issues. The New Canadian is a monthly publication distributed throughout the Greater Vancouver area. Content is comprised of profiles of successful immigrants, columns by experts in fields such as banking, law, and real estate, and stories of personal triumph.
